Why this blog
I’ve played a lot of roles to this point in my life: teacher, mother, pastor’s wife, writer, editor, speaker, realtor. I’ve loved every role, and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.
But there came an instant, several years ago, when I stared at the face of an acquaintance in the obituary section of our local paper, and wondered, Why is she gone … and why am I still here?
I didn’t understand that day, or that week. But I slowly began to realize that I was here for a reason much bigger than my own comforts, passions and ambitions. I’m still here because I’ve been called to love, pray for, and tend to my grandchildren and their parents.
I certainly don’t have all the answers they need, but I do have some. I’m not a perfect mother, mother-in-law or grandmother, but I’m trying hard to be the best of what they need. And I can’t think of anything more encouraging than meeting and linking arms with other women who have realized their own such grand and awesome calling. My hope is that we can spur each other on to embracing this task with joy, and doing all we can to leave a legacy that will last long after we’re gone.
